It lives!!!

I looked out of my back door this morning and noticed that one of my roses is in bloom... with absolutely no help from me! About half of my back lawn is alive again, and my firebush is pushing out a new round of flowers. Although today is rather humid and icky, fall has started to set in. Perhaps my enthusiasm will be rivived with the cooler temperatures.

I'm sure that people from other climes don't understand why we Austin gardeners dance around and sing, "Yay! It's fall." Cool weather and rain. What a combo! But I don't know why the temps have to go from 90 to 40--couldn't we spend some time in the 70s and 80s?

My roses aren't blooming yet but they're putting out new growth. So I'm hopeful. The oleander has begun reblooming. It's the 4 o'clocks that have gone crazy this week, emitting an intensely sweet scent.

R, you could be using that time to train your dogs as gardeners... did you see that over at the Alaska Dirt Divas the dogs were taught to mix up soil and amendments on command!
